In February, Canadian Tire Corporation announced an additional $12 million commitment to Jumpstart’s Sport Relief Fund to help sport and recreation organizations build back sport and play in Canada.
Jumpstart conducted a State of Sport study via Ipsos which revealed the pandemic has not only impacted current access to sport and play but has real long-term effects as well. North Durham United FC and the communities it serves have experienced the impact of the pandemic first-hand.
We recently received confirmation that we are amongst over 500 sport and recreation organizations nationally to be provided with grant support through the latest round of Jumpstart’s Sport Relief Fund. In 2021, Jumpstart has already disbursed over $9 million in funding to more than 800 organizations across Canada through Jumpstart’s Sport Relief Fund. We are beyond grateful to receive this news and know the positive impact it will have on sport and recreation organizations, and ultimately, on kids across the country.
With Jumpstart’s support, we’ll be able to effectively manage our Return to Play plan and effectively adapt our programs and delivery to ensure our community can return to soccer as soon as possible. North Durham United FC is grateful for this funding that will ensure our youth soccer players are fully supported as they safely return to outdoor sport in these challenging times. This collaboration with Jumpstart will enable the soccer club to continue to operate safely and focus on the best adaption of our coaching and technical program to meet the pandemic protocols. Our goal is to provide our communities with health & fitness opportunities through revived soccer programs that benefit our local youth with all the physical, mental, and social benefits provided by the sport of soccer.
As we emerge from the pandemic, return to play will be more important than ever.
It’s a season of change and we salute Jumpstart and our wonderful community for stepping up to help return all kids to the fun and the outdoors this summer.
Yours in soccer,
The Board of Directors & Staff of North Durham United FC
